How we can help
Explore shoulder care at FYZICAL Woburn
Explore some of the concerns we assess and how care can be tailored to your activities and goals.
Rotator cuff tears and tendinitis
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that helps move and support your shoulder. We see people with rotator cuff tendinitis, partial or full tears, and recovery after rotator cuff repair. Your assessment and any surgical precautions guide tailored movement and strengthening work, with or without surgery.
Request an appointmentShoulder impingement
Pain when lifting your arm overhead or out to the side can be linked to irritation of the tendons and tissues at the top of the shoulder. Your therapist looks at how your shoulder and upper back move and uses the assessment findings to guide work on movement, strength and everyday arm use.
Request an appointmentFrozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
Gradual stiffness and pain that limit shoulder movement. Care is paced to what your shoulder tolerates and reviewed over time.

Ask about an appointmentOur approach to care
Shoulder-focused treatment, paced to you
Shoulder pain can affect how you reach, lift, dress and sleep. Based on your assessment, your evidence-informed program may combine tailored exercise, movement practice and practical guidance to help manage symptoms and improve what you can do. Treatment is adjusted to your assessment, response and goals.
Tolerable movement and pacing
Your therapist helps you find shoulder movements you can tolerate, with the aim of keeping your arm moving without pushing through worsening pain. Guidance on pacing and gradually building activity can help you manage symptoms day to day.
Tailored mobility and strengthening
Exercises are chosen to work on shoulder movement and the strength of the muscles around the shoulder and upper back. Intensity is adjusted to your abilities and stage of recovery, with any surgical or medical precautions taken into account.
Activity and sleep-position guidance
Your therapist may suggest ways to adjust reaching, lifting, dressing and work tasks, and explore sleep positions aimed at making rest more comfortable. Together, you can review what feels manageable and adjust the suggestions to your symptoms and routine.
Support between appointments
A manageable home program helps you keep working toward your goals. Your therapist explains how much to do, how to adjust when your shoulder flares and when to stop an exercise and seek advice.
We review changes in your symptoms and everyday function—not just a pain score—and adjust your program as needed. Tell your therapist about new or worsening shoulder symptoms; some changes need medical review rather than an exercise adjustment.

03 — Your first visit
Know what to expect from the start
Step 1
We listen
Tell us when your shoulder problem began, any injury or surgery, what makes it better or worse and how it affects reaching, dressing, lifting and sleep. We discuss your health history and goals.
Step 2
We assess
Your therapist checks how your shoulder moves, its strength and how it affects everyday tasks. Your therapist explains the findings and discusses care options and any additional medical input needed. Discomfort felt near the shoulder or down the arm can sometimes involve the neck, so your assessment considers these areas together.
Step 3
We explain
We explain the findings, answer your questions and discuss next steps, including another healthcare professional’s input when needed.
Step 4
We plan together
We agree on goals and discuss the recommended approach, including whether to begin treatment that day.
What should I bring?
Bring your insurance information, medication list and any referral or surgical instructions, including any shoulder precautions. Wear a loose top that lets your therapist see and move your shoulder.
Already have a diagnosis or referral?
Bring it with you. Your therapist will review the information and assess how the problem affects you now.

A few answers before you get started
How quickly can I get an appointment?
New-patient evaluations are often available within two business days. Call or submit a request to check current availability.
Do I need a referral?
You can contact us without one. We will help check what is needed for your visit and your insurance plan.
Do I need a diagnosis first?
No. Tell us what you are experiencing. Your physical therapist will assess your concerns and discuss appropriate next steps.
Will my insurance cover my visits?
We are in-network with Medicare, Medicare Railroad, Mass General Brigham, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Aetna, TRICARE, BCBS and Harvard Pilgrim. Services for other plans, excluding Medicaid, are out-of-network and subject to clinic benefit verification. We are not a Medicaid provider. Coverage depends on your specific plan. We can help check your benefits and explain estimated costs before your visit. Benefit verification does not guarantee payment.
How many visits will I need?
That depends on your assessment, goals and progress. Your therapist will discuss a recommended plan and review it as treatment progresses.
Is physical therapy right for my shoulder?
Your therapist assesses your concerns, explains how physical therapy may help and discusses any medical input needed before or alongside care.
What if an exercise is painful?
Some discomfort can be expected, but do not push through pain that is getting worse. Stop and tell your therapist so the exercise can be adjusted or your shoulder reviewed.
How long does shoulder recovery take?
Your recovery plan reflects your condition, activities and goals. Your therapist reviews your progress and discusses what to expect; recovery times vary.
I had shoulder surgery. Can I come to you?
Yes. Your rehabilitation follows your surgical team's precautions and instructions. Bring any protocol or restrictions you were given.
Can I contact you for a family member?
